I still feel like a little boy inside. I have a difficult time peering into the mirror and locating a fully realized mature man. You might have thought the birth of my 2nd child would have changed it, but I still appear to be in self-denial of the aging process.
And regarding aging — or instead fighting it off — my wife and I recently bought a new home and it has room in the basement for the exercise room my wife had always sought. But I’m seeing dollar signs when I consider the many tiny and large things required, from the essential but oft-neglected weight-lifting benches and exercise mats to determining the most reliable of the many stationary bikes. An exercise bike can be tricky now a days. Do you go recumbent or upright exercise bike? Should you select an analog or electronic?
And then my dear wife seems set on getting an elliptical trainer as well. You read that right. An exercise bicycle and an elliptical machine — not only one or the other. My guess is that the extra exercise equipment goes with the stretch mark treatment she began utilizing after she bore our youngest daughter. Wow I’ll get it for that joke.
I must be deliberate with the budget because our new house is a bit more of a fixer-upper. We required it to be this way, yet we still must cautiously budget every little thing, down to the cabinet knobs (I’m not jesting). My wife has a pretty ambitious cabinet refacing design planned, but I have to remind her the sinks for the bathrooms she desires put in shall cost a fair amount, as well.
Gratefully, she and I both enjoy the rustic, natural style, so we are furnishing our new house with natural furniture. Of course, it still needs some polishing off, but we can keep the costs down and make better furniture than we could buy anywhere anyways.
I recently came across a nice with some decent, raw knotting and a sideboard table in matching oak. For our patio we are exploring outdoor fireplaces and we’ll furnish with some inexpensive wicker furniture to start.
Supplying a new home may appear so mature, but I cannot help but feel like I’m just playing house. The exercise equipment and furniture just feel like a new era of playthings.
